Regulations on the Use and Exchange of Foreign Driver’s Licenses in Turkey

1. Usage Period

Foreign nationals can use their foreign driver’s license in Turkey for up to 6 months from the date of entry into Türkiye.

2. Exchange Requirement

After 6 months, the license must be exchanged for its Turkish equivalent to continue driving. Temporary foreign licenses cannot be exchanged.

3. Bilateral Agreements and Convention Status

• Countries with agreements/parties to the convention: License exchange without course or exam.

• Countries not covered: Must obtain a Turkish license through training and exam after 6 months.

• Example: The People’s Republic of China is not covered; a new Turkish license is required.

  
  

4. List of Countries with Reciprocal Recognition

Examples: Russia, Iran, Pakistan, Germany, France, USA, Greece, etc.

District population directorates.

1. Photocopy of ID card or residence permit

2. Translation of diploma/education certificate

3. Original and color copy of foreign driver’s license

4. Notarial Turkish translation of the license

5. Medical report

6. License fee and valuable paper fee

7. 1 biometric photograph
